Laser Dentistry

Within the last few years, dental technology has advanced by leaps and bounds. One of the technological advancements we’re most excited to share with our patients is our WaterLase dental laser. Utilizing a concentrated beam of light energy, this dental laser can assist in a wide range of procedures, providing a higher degree of accuracy and ensuring a more conservative treatment. Dr. Goldberg uses laser dentistry to help his patients enjoy healthier, more beautiful smiles.

Laser Dentistry Procedure

As a general dentist, Dr. Goldberg provides preventive care, cosmetic dentistry, and restorative solutions to patients of all ages. He believes that dental technology, like the WaterLase, complements and enhances his suite of dental care services. Dental lasers have applications across our dental practice, including:

Periodontal treatment. Gum disease affects nearly half of Americans and is the leading contributor to adult tooth loss. A couple of decades ago, a gum disease diagnosis would have required a deep cleaning (also referred to as scaling and root planing) or even gum surgery (referred to clinically as a gingivectomy).

Thanks to the revolutionary WaterLase dental laser, Dr. Goldberg can now treat mild-to-moderate gum disease with enhanced comfort and precision. Laser treatments effectively kill bacterial infections and promote faster healing of gum tissue

Crown lengthening. Sometimes referred to as a gum lift, crown lengthening refers to the removal of excessive gum tissue for cosmetic purposes.

Sometimes, it’s the overabundance of visible gum tissue, rather than awkwardly shaped or spaced teeth, that can mar the overall appearance of your smile. By removing small amounts of gum tissue, Dr. Goldberg can dramatically improve the symmetry and beauty of your smile.

Dr. Goldberg also frequently uses crown lengthening as an adjunct procedure during the placement of porcelain veneers, since reshaping the gum line can give the veneers a more natural appearance.

Benefits of Laser Dentistry

In addition to being an exciting addition to our cutting-edge dental technology, Dr. Goldberg feels that dental laser treatment offers our patients three primary benefits:

  • More conservative treatments. In dentistry, a conservative procedure refers to a treatment option that preserves as much of your natural tooth and gum structure as possible, while still effectively treating a given oral health problem. Because dental lasers offer a higher degree of accuracy, especially with regard to soft tissue therapies, they are considered a highly conservative option.
  • Less discomfort and bleeding. Our patients note that laser gum therapy causes significantly less discomfort than traditional gum therapies. In addition, because the WaterLase cauterizes soft tissue as it passes across gums, patients experience little or no bleeding.
  • Significantly faster healing times. With dental laser therapy, patients do not require stitches. Thus, the average healing time after laser gum therapy is about 48 hours.
